Award Winners

General Session Preceding the keynote speech given by CNN anchor John King, Vicki Myers, chair of the ACA Correctional Awards Committee, presented the Innovation in Corrections Award. Dr. Lannette Linthicum, ACA immediate past president, presented the Lucy Webb Hayes Award. The Lucy Webb Hayes Award The Lucy Webb Hayes Award, presented by Immediate Past President Dr. Lannette Linthicum, acquired its namesake from Lucy Webb Hayes, the wife of ACA’s first president, Rutherford B. Hayes. Lucy Webb Hayes influenced her husband to take an interest in reforming the prison system in Ohio. The award is now given out to agencies that have achieved both full ACA accreditation and PREA compliance. This year, the award was given to ACA President-Elect Tony Parker on behalf of the Tennessee Department of Correction and Director Robert Lampert on behalf of the Wyoming Department of Corrections. In accepting the award, Parker thanked all of the dedicated corrections professionals for all the work that they do, and their “commitment to excellence.” Lampert said that accepting the award is “only possible because of the dedicated corrections professionals who make it possible, and do the hard job of corrections so well each and every day.”

Above and beyond the call of duty ACA recognizes the outstanding work of corrections professionals C orrections professionals work every day to create a better environment not only in their respective facilities but in the community as a whole. Each year, the American Correctional Association shines a spotlight on those who have shown extraordinary bravery and ingenuity in the past year. This year at the 2019 Winter Conference, awards were presented at the General Session on Monday, Jan. 14, and at the ACA Annual Luncheon on Tuesday, Jan. 15.
