Specific goal (which should be measurable, achievable, functional and easy to integrate into his daily life) Following training, CPs will identify PCAs used by Robert and respond to them consistently as if he has intentionally communicated. For example, when he looks at an item, they interpret that he wants it, give it to him and state that he has chosen the item Staff will engage with Robert for at least 30 minutes per day by initiating interaction using the HOP program Robert will be supported to hand over a community request card at the café when ordering a drink Robert will choose which instrument to play during music group when presented with two objects to choose from Staff will bring each object symbol to Robert for 5 minutes prior to a change in routine. Object symbols include fork for mealtime, towel for bath time, soft blanket for bed time

Training

Enable Robert’s communication partners to identify his PCAs

Train CPs to identify subtle behaviours from videos of Robert interacting with them and create a list of behaviours and their meaning

Facilitate engagement between Robert and the support staff

Provide training in the hanging out program (HOP) to support staff to learn how to engage with him successfully Provide community request cards for a range of requests in preferred activities Use objects to allow Robert to make choices

Expand

Expand the activities Robert participates in

Assist Robert to make choices during preferred activities

Augment

To allow Robert to anticipate his routine

Add symbols to daily routine to allow him to build the association between the symbol and the activity

Move

This is not relevant as Robert is unlikely to move along the

intentionality continuum but can be revisited if he starts to use objects symbolically
