I am Heather Stenson. I am a senior at Katy High School in Katy, Texas, and I am currently serving as an at- large director for the National Junior Santa Gertrudis Association. I am

honored that I was elected at the 2017 National Junior Santa Gertrudis Show (NJSGS). I have had so much fun and feel so fortunate to be a part of this amazing leadership team representing all of the juniors in every state. I have loved getting to meet new members in person and getting together with old friends at shows and sales. It was great seeing some of the new genetics exhibited by Santa Gertrudis juniors and breeders at the major Texas open and junior shows. Congratulations to everyone who exhibited these beautiful red cattle. No exhibitor should be ashamed of what they brought to the various shows. The competition was deep and all the cattle looked amazing. We had fantastic breed representation at all of the Texas majors this season, and we all should be very proud of our breed association and our gorgeous red cattle. Many of our affiliate shows are coming up and we are get- ting closer to junior nationals. It’s crunch time for last minute practice before the NJSGS in Texarkana, Ark., in June. The registration deadline is approaching and we need those last- minute cattle registered for the show. Also, don’t forget the various contests they have for juniors to participate in. They are great learning opportuni- ties and an awesome way to meet new friends. I look forward to seeing everyone in Texarkana at the 2018 NJSGS for “Gert Times across State Lines!”
