The 2013 MAAC Volleyball Championship Field Set for Saturday

Courtesy: MAAC Sports Release: 11/17/2013 Edison, N.J. – The seeds are set for the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship, to be held Nov. 23- 24 at Alumni Recreation Center on the campus of Siena College. Fairfield University and Marist College each finished its regular season in the MAAC with a 14-4 league record and won a share of the league’s regular season championship. Fairfield went 2-0 against Marist during the regular season and therefore will be the top seed in the upcoming championship with Marist being the second seed. Iona College, Manhattan College and Siena College all finished the regular season at 13-5 in league play. By virtue of a tiebreaker, Iona is the third seed and Manhattan is the fourth seed in the championship. The first semifinal begins Nov. 23 at 1 p.m., when No. 1 seed Fairfield University faces No. 4 seed Manhattan College. Fairfield defeated Canisius 3-1 in its final match of the regular season to earn a share of the MAAC regular season championship title and top overall seed. Manhattan entered the final week as the top team in the standings but fell to Iona 3-1 in its final match. The teams split their regular season meetings, with Manhattan winning 3-0 on Sept. 28 at Draddy Gymnasium and Fairfield taking a 3-0 victory on Nov. 09 in Alumni Hall. The second semifinal starts at 4 p.m. on Nov. 23, with No. 2 Marist College taking on No. 3 Iona College. Marist beat Rider in five sets after falling behind 2-0 in the final match of the regular season to earn a share of the MAAC regular season champion- ship title. Iona defeated Manhattan 3-1 in its final match of the regular season to secure the third seed. The teams split their regular season matches, with Marist winning in straight sets on Sept. 22 at McCann Arena and Iona winning 3-1 on Oct. 26 at Hynes Athletic Center. The championship game will take place Sunday, Nov. 24 at 1 p.m. All three games will be featured on MAAC.TV. Tickets are available for the 2013 MAAC Volleyball Championship at TicketLeap.
