South Bay El Segundo Location and Culture

El Segundo has more of a small-town feel than any other city along the L.A. coastal area. Although there are no main roads or highways that go through the area, residents are never far from direct routes into the city with Highway 105 and the LAX airport to the north. The neighborhoods to the north of El Segundo are Westchester and Playa Del Ray, to the south is Manhattan Beach, and to the west is Hawthorne. Housing Houses in El Segundo are mixed in architectural style, ranging from traditional Colonial homes, to California Ranch, to single- story bungalows. Fairly new apartment complexes are in the neighborhood and allow for a wide range of housing options. Schooling El Segundo has its own unified school district that serves the community by providing education for grades PreK-12. El Segundo has great school programs and is well-rated for its academic performance. Activities and Landmarks The city is transitioning into a corporate town, but its many outdoor resources make it perfect for both professionals and nature lovers alike. Main Street, including the heritage walk, is the main landmark in El Segundo; it illustrates the history of the city. Although El Segundo has one of the smallest beaches with less than one mile of beachfront, it features renovated restroom facilities, a lifeguard lookout tower, and clean sandy areas. A bike path and volleyball courts can be found close to the beach’s parking lot.

The El Segundo Museum of Art brings culture to the area with nearly 500 works of art by artists such as Monet, Sisley, Pissarro, Kandinsky, Warhol, and Rauschenberg. Old Town Music Hall is a treasured cultural landmark showing vintage silent and sound films and presenting live concerts by some of the world’s finest performers of jazz, ragtime, and popular music from the past. A variety of restaurants and shopping locations can be found in El Segundo; there is never a shortage of establishments to eat or drink. Plaza El Segundo has some of the best shopping options, with everything from boutique dress shops to athletic wear, shoes, and home goods.
