JOHN B. OLD GRAND DAD 114 PROOF Full bodied, nicely proofed, and budget priced, this is a must-have bottle on your shelf. It’s a full-flavored affair, and its 114 proof can taste stronger than other bourbons at a higher proof. At under $25, there are few bourbons in this price range at this proof with this flavor profile. Old Grand-Dad 114 packs a punch, but the rich taste does make up for it. $19.98 $24.99 The One and Only New Orleans Original. Sazerac Rye Whiskey symbolizes the tradition and history of New Orleans. Rye whiskey dates back to the 1800s, when saloons, veiled as coffee houses, began lining the streets of New Orleans. At the Sazerac Coffee House on Royal Street, local patrons were served toddies made with rye whiskey and Peychaud’s Bitters. The libation became known as the “Sazerac,” and America’s first branded cocktail was born. This is the whiskey that started it all. Clove, vanilla, anise, and pepper aromas lead to subtle candies, spices, and citrus notes. The big finish is FRANKIE SAZERAC RYE COLIN LAGAVULIN 16-YEAR-OLD Lagavulin Single Malt 16 Years Old Scotch Whisky 86 proof has the intense, full-bodied flavor reminiscent of a driftwood fire at dusk. The taste of dry peat smoke with strong maritime notes results in a complex dram complemented by a long, elegant finish. $89.98 $112.99

CELEBRATE MORE! HOW TO READ A BOURBON LABEL Next time you visit Colonial, head for the Bourbon aisle and take a look at a bottle. What’s on the label, and what’s not on the label, can help you decide whether the Bourbon inside matches your tastes. Here are a few tips on deciphering what you read. We’ll use three of Old Grand Dad’s Bourbons for our demo.
1. PROOF , or alcohol by volume, determines a lot about the juice inside the bottle: flavor profile, mouth feel, aroma and overall strength. Distillers can’t legally sell 100 percent alcohol as Bourbon, so they dilute it with water to the desired ratio. The proof changes slightly while the Bourbon is in the barrel and some evaporation occurs. Old Grand Dad Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey = 80 proof (40 percent alcohol) Old Grand Dad Bottled in Bond = 100 proof (50 percent alcohol) Old Grand Dad 114 = 114 proof (57 percent alcohol)
2. MASH BILL tells you the type of grain the Bourbon is made of. To be Bourbon, whiskey has to contain between 51 and 80 percent corn; distillers augment the corn with various amounts of malted barley, wheat and/or rye, This Bourbon has the phrase “high rye” (although no percentage is stated.) It’s fair to say that Old Grand Dad would be a good choice if you like a spicy dram. 3. STRAIGHT BOURBON WHISKEY is a good substitute phrase for an age statement, which many labels don’t have. Straight Bourbon must be aged no less than two years in new charred oak barrels. 4. BOTTLED IN BOND BOURBON is required to age at least four years, using the same ingredients
and aging methods as other Bourbons. It has to be the product of one single distillery and one distilling season.

KOPKE 20-YEAR-OLD TAWNY PORT 94 Points Wine Spectator
DOW'S 20-YEAR-OLD TAWNY PORT Decanter Rated 94 Points. Attractively full in style for a 20YO. Subtle toffee and cream aromas, rich and broad palate, and marmalade bite at the end. – Decanter . Winemaker Notes: "20 Years" indicates the average age of this Aged Tawny Port. It is a blend of older wines that offer complexity, and younger wines, that bring fresh fruit flavors and vibrancy. Aged Tawnies benefit from long maturing periods in oak casks, causing subtle color changes. A deep red hue characterizes Port's youth and gradually gives way to a paler golden amber color. The characteristic of Dow is a drier style. This 20 Year has a full, nutty bouquet, concentrated citrus, almond, and caramel notes on the palate, and a lingering finish. Many consider the 20 Year the perfect blend of complexity and vibrant fruit for Aged Tawny. Dow's 20 Year is delicious with soft-ripened cheeses, flan, or fruit tarts. In warmer months, try it chilled for a refreshing dessert in a glass. $52.98 $68.99 CHURCHILL'S LATE BOTTLE VINTAGE 2014 While 'regular' vintage Port is the pinnacle of any house's production, it is typically bottled in wood or steel after a maximum of 30 months. The process retains a fresher, less oxidative fruit character. Still, it often requires decades of bottle age to tame the wine's fierce structure. From vintage-quality grapes, these wines spend 4+ years in wood, retaining a good deal of vintage Port's character while being effectively ready to drink on release. $24.98 $32.99
Elegant, rich, and nutty with flavors that go on forever. A creamy smooth blend of 15- to 35-year-old tawnies shows deep caramel, dried fig flavor, and well-developed color. This wine tastes all 20 years, finely balanced, with its richness and dryness, and with lemon jelly and intense ripe fruits shining through.
$62.98 $79.99 KOPKE 10-YEAR-OLD TAWNY PORT
Decanter Rated 95 Points and Gold Medal An appealing golden color with an amber rim. Elegant and complex, it shows spice aromas, with prevailing notes of dried fruit and elegant hints of wood and honey.
