Popular Neighborhoods DOWNTOWN – HENSLEYDISTRICT (N. 2NDSTREET AT JULIANSTREET) Very walkable, easy access to bus lines and VTA tram line, shops and restaurants. Good proximity to San Pedro Square and Japantown. Good nightlife for young professionals. The SAP Center, home of the San Jose Sharks hockey team, as well as many concerts and events are located here. Downtown San Jose also has many museums, a theater and convention center, making the area desirable for active young professionals. A soccer stadium hosting the San Jose Earthquakes is also nearby. Good proximity to groceries: Trader Joes, Target, Costco and more. Access to Diridon Station for train lines to San Francisco, the East Bay and Central Valley connections. JAPANTOWN (JACKSON STREET AT 6TH STREET) & NORTHSIDE Bordering Downtown San Jose, the above mentioned details also apply to Japantown with the added bonus of a fantastic cultural area featuring Japanese markets and many wonderful restaurants such as a local favorite, Minato Japanese Restaurant . A seasonal farmers market is held here as well. Many new apartment communities have been built in the last few years with amenities appealing to young professionals. “Northside” borders Japantown and Downtown San Jose on the north side of E. Santa Clara Street. This is a mostly suburban area with single family homes, duplexes and some apartment communities. This area is a little farther away from Downtown, parts of this neighborhood would be considered walkable to Japantown, but not to San Pedro Square. Avoid living close to parks in this neighborhood due to the homeless encampments. WILLOW GLEN Located just outside of Downtown, Willow Glen is a desirable San Jose suburb. The area features a lovely town center with shops, restaurants and parks. This is a very family and pet friendly area with many residents out for a walk in the evening. While Willow Glen does not have the same nightlife feel as Downtown San Jose, some young professionals choose this area because of the availability of budget friendly apartments. The Lincoln Avenue area has been a favorite for many young professionals due to the abundance of bus stops and excellent nearby amenities. THE ALAMEDA Bordering Downtown San Jose and the Rose Garden neighborhood, The Alameda is an up-and-coming hot spot for young professionals. This area features newer, upscale, pet-friendly loft apartment communities. Very walkable with excellent proximity to a new Whole Foods market, cafes, restaurants as well as quick access to Coleman Shopping Center, with Trader Joes, Target, Marshall’s PetSmart, BJ’s Brewery , Panera Bread and more. SUNNYVALE Visitors and residents enjoy Sunnyvale’s beautiful, clean suburban setting, efficient, high-quality city services, low crime rate, quality schools and 18 prize- winning parks. Residents can drive or take public transportation within an hour to many recreational facilities. Full Circle Farm, encompassing 11 acres, is the largest community-based urban farm in Silicon Valley.
