Eighteen wildfires are burning in Northern California. The first fires started on October 8th.

11,000 houses caught on fire. About 5,000 houses burned down.

About 3,000 cars caught on fire.

Some people got sick from the smoke. Some people died.

Some of the fires may have been caused by electrical wires catching on fire.

Some of the fires may have been caused by arson. Arson is when someone starts a fire on purpose.

7 The fires have been hard to put out. A lot of oak trees have a disease called sudden oak death. The dead trees feed the fire.

Firefighters are still trying to put out the fires.

The fires have been burning for two weeks. It started to rain in California last Friday. That will help the firemen put out the fires.
