While on the course, members should be able to upload photos (Alligators, rare birds, maintenance issues, areas of the course that need attention, etc.) and provide a mechanism to offer suggestions and ideas to reduce the carbon footprint. The content provided can be used by the Golf Committee. 12. Technology. Digitized data is providing big opportunities for innovation. For example, mobile apps and drones are already making it easier to map and better understand sustainability challenges, and address them in a more targeted way. This is changing the way some audits are carried out. Furthermore, technology can be effectively used for training and raising awareness among staffers and members. 13. Collaboration with Peers. Consider forming a local group and invite other clubs for a “roundtable” discussion to better understand the benefits of a sustainable club, share best practices and collaborate. 14. Social Media. Posting news-worthy stories that speak to being eco-friendly is a great way to educate prospective and current members about the club’s sustainability practices. Posting and publishing eco-friendly content on the social media sites will allow the club to see which members are supportive to better gauge interest levels. Clubs that aspire to be known as a Good Neighbor understand the importance of being known as eco-friendly. The following best-practices, case studies and suggestions are very helpful in achieving the club’s goals and objectives. “Sustainability is about ensuring profitable businesses while making decisions that are in the long-term interest of the environment and communities. The focus is on continual improvement, professionally managing and conserving resources and inputs, and reducing waste while providing playing conditions that satisfy golfers of today and tomorrow.” GCSAA. Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program ACSP is an education and certification program that helps organizations and businesses protect the environment while enhancing their bottom line. For a golf course to achieve ACSP certification, it must implement environmental management practices in six areas: environmental planning, wildlife and habitat management, chemical-use reduction and safety, water conservation, water quality management, and outreach and education . 1. Club Culture Report™. The Olympic Club, San Francisco CA created the first ever Private Club - Corporate Social Responsibility Report , an 82-page document that highlights the great things the club is doing across many environmental sustainability categories that reduce their carbon footprint. Green initiatives include water conservation, waste reduction, wildlife protection, energy emissions, bio diversity and community partnerships. 2. Enrich your club . The Union League of Chicago issued a 24-page digital flipbook version of a Club Culture Report™, which they refer to as a membership brochure. This piece focuses on the clubs purpose with a key focus on the work “enrichment”. 3. Geo Certification . The Venice Golf & Country Club is amongst an elite group of private cubs to earn the Geo Certification, an extensive study of the facilities, water, energy and
