Torch - Fall 2015

Thank You from the Chairs

In this fall 2015 issue of the Torch/Annual Report , we explore the concept of leadership in its many forms. As the Chair of the Havergal College Board of Governors and the Chair of The Havergal College Foundation for the 2014–15 school year, we were privileged to lead a senior group of volunteers who held leadership roles in our community. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our fellow governors and trustees for their commitment to Havergal. In addition to its governing boards, the school has several other groups to whom it is indebted for outstanding leadership—the volunteers of the Havergal Old Girls Association (HOGA) and the Havergal College Parents Association (HCPA) are two such groups—and we extend our gratitude to them for the important work they do in keeping the Havergal community vibrant and connected. The leadership of our Principal, Helen-Kay Davy, and our School Captain, Tessa Buchan, in 2014–15 resulted in a productive and exciting year as faculty, staff and students examined the school’s mission and values. This process helped Mrs. Davy and the Board of Governors to articulate a new strategic vision for Havergal, which you will hear more about in early 2016. Turning to our broader community, every person named in this Annual Report is a leader in philanthropy as they have helped us to grow Havergal’s culture of giving. Our new strategic plan will lead us into a remarkable period of growth and development for our school. Without the active participation and support from our Havergal community members, we would be unable to contemplate the bright future we see. The impact that each of us makes through our giving is tangible—we see it every day reflected in the lives of our students, faculty and staff. We encourage every member of our community to give generously. Your contributions are greatly appreciated!
