ABB has received an order from the electric co-operative Great River Energy. The contract, worth around $130 million, is to upgrade an existing high voltage direct current connection in the USA. The 700km ±400kV HVDC transmission system will provide a significant link for transferring 1,000MW between Underwood, North Dakota, and Buffalo, Minnesota. Within the project scope, ABB will upgrade the converter valves, valve cooling systems, control and protection systems, and other related equipment at the converter stations. The modernization is intended to improve grid reliability and efficiency.
