BAUMA CONEXPO REVIEW – NEWS

CDE announces new mining division and massive plant expansion

CDE, a global leading wet processing equip- ment company, announces that it has bought the Caterpillar Northern Ireland manufactur- ing facility in Monkstown. This gives CDE 300 000 sq feet of extra plant, effectively multiplying its existing operations tenfold and one that will drastically cut lead times for project delivery in sub-Saharan Africa. CDE made the announcement just before exhibiting at the bauma CONEXPO AFRICA in Johannesburg where the company also launched its CDE Meta division focusing on the mining industry. CDE Head of Mining, Adam Holland says the announcements are significant. “We are demonstrating the company’s considerable commitment not only to the region but also to meet demand and respond to the company’s rapid expansion.” “Our equipment and engineering prowess has seen major growth in Africa and we are delighted that we can not only reduce lead times but also deliver a fully integrated and bespoke service to our customers. Our Barloworld Equipment used bauma CONEXPO AFRICA 2018 to launch three key SEM products, said to be specifically designed for rigorous African conditions. The three SEM products – two wheel loaders and a track-type tractor – are all medium-sized to offer greater versatility and affordability to contractors in the construction, quarrying and mining industries. The SEM wheel loaders – the SEM636D and SEM660D – offer load capacities of 3 000 kg and 6 000 kg, respectively. “Many components of the machines have been re-engineered to offer customers greater longevity under extreme pressure of use and conditions,” says Emmy Leeka, Barloworld Equipment CEO. Some of the key features include a 93 desert-type air cleanser providing machine reliability in severe conditions; simplified countershaft transmission structure to reduce maintenance costs; and a relocated hydraulic oil tank to extend the hydraulic pump life. The loaders’ SEM-designed and built axle provides 10 callipers, improving brake perfor- mance and extending service life. The track-type tractor – the SEM816/822) – is said to combine a high level of efficiency and manoeuvrability, thanks to its hydro- static drive system and multifunctional joystick. The operator cabin is ergonomically designed and equipped with advanced moni- toring systems. The tractor’s electronic control module

facilitates quick troubleshooting and easy access to components, enabling faster overall maintenance time. It is supported by CAT Product Link. A Cummins engine can be installed as an option. The tractor’s radiator boasts a new advanced cooling system designed to operate at ambient temperatures from -43°C to +50°C. Its semi-universal blade combines an S-blade’s sound penetration with a U-blade’s high production capacity. Its L-shaped

push arms position the blade closer to the machine, offering greater manoeuvrability, balance and blade penetration. “Maintenance costs on the tractor are reduced by 60% compared to competing models designed with torque converter and transmission. The attention to detail in strengthening the machines, extending com- ponent life and facilitating easier and faster service will repay the investment many times over for customers,” concludes Leeka. b
