OFS has launched the LC Crimp and Cleave connectivity solution for industrial networks. The LC Crimp and Cleave connector utilizes the optical and mechanical properties of HCS ® (hard clad silica) and GiHCS ® (graded index) optical fibers by adopting a mechanical connection to the cable, rather than traditional epoxy/polish methods.

Forward looking connections

Optical Cable Corporation has introduced the first commercially available connector designed to meet the coming Category 8 copper connectivity and cabling industry standard developed by the Telecommunications Industry Association. OCC’s Cat8 field terminableplug is designed to provide the highest level of performance for direct attach, high speed applications when used in combination with a category 8 copper cable, providing data transmission speeds of up to 40Gb/s. It meets the latest draft of ANSI/TIA-568-C.2-1 balanced twisted-pair telecommunications cabling and components standard, addendum 1: specifications for 100 ohms Category 8 cabling, expected to be released late next year. The Category 8 standard defines the performance requirements of copper cables and connectivity for the next generation of BASE-T ethernet being developed by the IEEE. “Our introduction of the industry’s first Category 8 plug is another example of OCC’s industry leadership and the strength of our team – in both copper and fiber optic cabling and connectivity products,” said Neil Wilkin, OCC’s chairman, president and CEO. “OCC's Category test fixtures provide manufacturers and other members of the telecommunications industry a better methodology and better process control for guaranteeing Category level performance

Industrial network applications demand high bandwidth and reliable cabling. OFS GiHCS optical fiber, in a low smoke zero halogen cable construction with Crimp and Cleave connectors, offers technicians a simple connector installation that can withstand temperatures between –20ºC and +80ºC and in conditions of abrasion, vibration and subject to industrial chemicals. “What was, historically, a ten-minute process for installing fiber optic terminations is now made simpler and easier with OFS’s new Crimp and Cleave technology,” said Mike Hines, marketing manager for industrial and energy markets at OFS. “Designed with the field installer in mind, technicians with minimal fiber optic experience can rapidly install new, or repair damaged, fiber optic cables.”
