Island gets bespoke cable

UAE-based Ducab has been named among the top UAE brands for the seventh consecutive year. Ducab was among the few brands to be shortlisted from over 1,500 brands in the UAE, voted through independent research by the Superbrands Council selection process. With six manufacturing facilities across four sites in the UAE, Ducab is prominent in the development, design, manufacture, marketing and distribution of copper and aluminum wire and cable products. Ducab competed with international names in an online poll, and was awarded the Superbrands title for market presence, product quality, consumer confidence, continuity, accounting practices, customer loyalty and market acceptance.

South telecommunications company KT has won a $47 million contract to install fiber optic cables in the Philippines. The project was awarded by the local Internet service provider, Converge ICT Solutions, as part of a cable network under construction in the northern regions of Luzon Island, the Philippines’ biggest island. The project is part of Converge’s plan for a national deployment of cables. Philippines is comprised of around 7,000 islands with sporadic Internet speeds, depending on region. KT will build 1,570km of cables to cover half of Luzon’s homes. KT has built 5,500km of cable outside South Korea, in places such as Myanmar and Bangladesh, and will install cables specifically designed and optimized for the Philippines. Korean
