T he lighting of paths, steps and focal points of your home can be done not only for practical reasons but to provide a visual interest that welcomes family and guests and leads them safely to their destination. A well-designed plan can integrate practical, security and feature lighting. This lighting can be combined with sensors to control security and energy efficiency. Pictured a winding stone pathway through a thoughtfully designed garden landscape. Modern lanterns cast a warm glow along the geometric pavers, while native grasses and ornamental plants soften the edges. The combination of weathered stone, crushed gravel, and carefully chosen plantings demonstrate masterful garden design principles. When considering the lighting of your garden first look for focal points of interest. Choosing what to light is important. Look for trees and plants with unusual foliage or trunk systems. Adding plants in nice pots or garden features can help to giving your lighting something different. Highlighting of features can be achieved with up lighting, cross lighting and shadowing that will create different textures impacting on the mood and feel you are after. Contrasts between light and dark can create dramatic effects. The illumination of gardens, paths and features is the most exciting of all outdoor lighting. While having a lighting expert design and suggest what products are best suited for your project is highly recommended, DIY garden lighting is very popular, and the use of 12v & LED (Light Emitting Diodes) lighting systems makes installation safe and easy. LED lighting has given garden and outdoor lighting more scope for visual effects with different colour choice and control of the light output. They are extremely energy efficient and maintenance free, but it is important you understand the product you are purchasing. Outdoor Garden Lighting

N ative plants, have co-evolved with other plant and animal species in specific regions, providing incredible benefits for gardeners and the environment. The adaptability of these plants to local climate and soil conditions often means they require less upkeep compared to non-native counterparts and are more resilient to weather extremes and sudden changes in conditions. Native plants play a vital role in the food web and provide shelter for local wildlife, including native bees, butterflies, pollinators, and birds. Native plants provide habitat for a diverse range of invertebrates, which in turn meet the needs of nearby wildlife populations and helps sustain their biodiversity as well. They act as natural pest controllers by attracting beneficial insects and birds that prey on pests and repel alien species, eliminating or greatly reducing the need for chemical treatments and promoting a healthier garden and environment. They save time and effort by growing in balance with other plants, and having beneficial relationships with insects, birds and other animals contributing to the overall well-being of our planet, providing healthy, chemical-free environments for play and relaxation. Native plants reduce erosion and improve soil health, promoting a balance of microbes and fungi that help provide all plants in the landscape with essential nutrients.

Top surfing spots on the coast 1. Avoca Beach is one of the most popular and well-known surf breaks on the Central Coast with good reason, offering a variety of surfing conditions. Boasting a perfect point break and multiple beach break options to choose from this beach offers plenty of opportunity to enhance your surfing ability. 2. Copacabana Beach is protected from the area’s northeasterly winds this surfing spot offers a world-class point break for advanced surfers while also providing the perfect location to challenge your surfing skills and grow as a surfer. L eading Central Coast Obstetrics and Gynaecology Practice, Intuition Private has today announced the introduction of two new paediatricians, as part of its growing practice. Intuition Private is expanding its services to provide specialist paediatric care for families on the Central Coast. The introduction of two highly experienced paediatricians, Dr Shriniwas Chinta and Dr Umesh Mishra, will ensure local families have greater access to expert care for babies and young children. Dr Chinta is a neonatologist and general paediatrician with over 20 years of experience in newborn and paediatric care across Australia and internationally. He has a special interest in infant growth and development, premature infant care, nutrition, reflux, colic, sleep, and settling concerns. Dr Mishra brings additional expertise in general paediatrics, including newborn health and early childhood development.

5. Soldiers Beach is just South of the historic Norah Head lighthouse, a locals favourite surfing spot. Loved for its pristine white sand, clear water and reliable waves, which draw in the board riders year-round. 6. Pelican Beach is surrounded by Wyrrabalong National Park, Pelican Beach – or ‘Pelos’ as locals call it – is accessed via the rather unassuming Pelican Beach Road off Wilfred Barrett Drive. This is true surfing nirvana for experienced board riders and, due to its relative isolation, is usually uncrowded. 7. Shelly Beach stretching an impressive 1.5 kilometres, Shelly Beach is a great all-rounder beach. It attracts surfers of all abilities for its consistent beach break.

3. Bouddi National Park is more off the beaten track with good breaks between Macmasters Beach and Box Head. Surfers make the long walk from the car park to surf one of the least crowded beach breaks in the region. Tallow Beach is known for perfect long waves, and the waves at Box Head can go forever if the various sections link up. Extremely dependent on the quality of the sandbar, the break's also very tidal so in big south swells you'll need to be super fit to handle long paddles against strong currents. 4. Forresters Beach faces southeast and boasts some of the most impressive reef breaks in Australia. The main central reef is about 600 metres offshore. Locally known as 'Forries'.

Intuition Private announces the introduction of two new paediatricians as part of its growing practice

His clinic will focus on babies and children up to five years of age, with some scope for behavioural concerns. The new paediatric service at Intuition Private is open to all families, regardless of whether they are existing patients of the clinic. Private health cover is not required, and Medicare rebates are available to eligible patients. Families do not need to have previously engaged with Intuition Private’s obstetric services to book an appointment, making this a highly accessible service for the wider Central Coast community. Bookings are now open, and families are encouraged to call 4351 0200 to secure an appointment. “We’re committed to expanding access to high-quality healthcare for women and families. With Dr Chinta and Dr Mishra joining our team, we’re excited to offer comprehensive paediatric care right here in North Gosford,” said Dr Peta Skilbeck, Clinical Director at Intuition Private

Our relationship with nature H ow much we notice, think about and appreciate our natural surroundings – is critical in supporting good mental health and preventing distress. Nature is an important need for many and vital in keeping us emotionally, psychologically and physically healthy. Spending time in green space or bringing nature into your everyday life can benefit both your mental and physical wellbeing. For example, doing things like growing food or flowers, exercising outdoors or being around animals can have lots of positive effects Regarding mental health benefits, nature has a very wide definition. It can mean green spaces like parks, national parks and blue spaces like rivers, wetlands or beaches. Surprisingly, even watching nature documentaries is good for our mental health. This is great news as it means the mental health benefits of nature can be made available to nearly every one of us, no matter where we live. Research shows that people who are more connected with nature are usually happier in life and more likely to report feeling their lives are worthwhile. Nature can generate many positive emotions, such as calmness, joy, and creativity and can facilitate concentration. Nature connectedness is also associated with lower levels of poor mental health, particularly lower depression and anxiety. Perhaps not surprisingly, people with strong nature connectedness are likelier to have pro-environmental behaviours such as recycling items or buying seasonal food. This is likely to lead to further benefits if these pro-environmental activities can lead to natural improvements that we can then go on to enjoy. At a time of devastating environmental threats, developing a stronger, mutually supportive relationship between people and the environment will be critical.

Kids helpline T he Minns access to essential mental health support for young people through a $17.1 million investment in Kids Helpline, providing greater access to free counselling services for Central Coast children and young people facing emotional distress or mental health challenges. Member for Gosford, Labor Government is improving

Liesl Tesch, says that the investment will ensure that children and young people can continue to reach out and receive timely and accessible care. “This boost in funding will mean that Central Coast children and young people can have a place where they can express their feelings and feel listened to, whilst receiving age appropriate counselling and support. “This funding will also offer development opportunities for existing Kids Helpline staff, investing in a workforce that provides invaluable support to Central Coast young people.” The funding will also upskill counsellors with additional practical skills to help them provide better support and strengthen the integration of Kids Helpline with local, area and state-wide services across mental health, child protection, education, employment, and other social systems. Kids Helpline Manager, Tony Fitzgerald, says “The contribution will advance our work with up to 28 additional Kids Helpline counsellors being onboarded over the next four years to take meaningful action to improve support to children and young people. “We know that increasing counselling resources reduces the risk of suicide and will provide ongoing stability for the dedicated professional counsellor workforce who respond to calls, web chat conversations and email from young people.” Ms Tesch says that the funding will ensure Central Coast children and young people have greater access to free counselling services. Kids Helpline (1800 55 1800) operates 24/7 and provides age-appropriate online and phone counselling support for young people aged 5 to 25.

Flooring Options - Residential, Rental & Business spaces

P roflooring provides a comprehensive range to make choosing the right flooring for your project simple. Our knowledgeable & experienced staff will help you choose the floor that will be best for you. We specialise in quality Oak, Timber & Laminate flooring. Each bring their own unique strengths and beauty. Your selection will depend on an array of factors and we’re here to help you find the best fit for you. Alternatives may include Bamboo or Cork. Engineered timber is available in a wide range of species, including Australian managed-forest hardwood species such as Blackbutt, Spotted Gum, Sydney Blue Gum, Tas Oak, Jarrah etc. This type of flooring comes in panels that are fitted together to create a plate of flooring that is laid on top of a 2mm underlay. Engineered timber flooring can be laid over any sound, hard and level subfloor, including concrete, timber, particle board, ceramic tiles, lino or cork. Oak flooring is the same as engineered Timber with an Oak top layer on several layers of other hardwood timber. Oak provides the opportunity for a wide range of colours. Natural oak is a mild honey colour, but the raw timber takes staining well and the finished options range from white to black though the greys, browns and warm honey ranges and can be distressed, washed or traditionally finished to suit the effect you are looking for. Most ranges of Oak flooring are finished with a matt varnish surface. Oak displays strong features in crown grain and knots so if you like the ‘timber’ look, oak is a great option. This also helps hide normal dents, wear and tear as marks and scuffs easily blend into the features of the floor. Laminate flooring refers to flooring that is made of basically the same material as a kitchen bench top but is substantially harder. It is extremely resistant to scuffing and scratching and has a very high resistance to impact damage. Laminate flooring comes in panels that are fitted together to create a “plate” of flooring that is laid on top of a 2mm underlay. Available in varying qualities and realistic Aussie colours including Blackbutt, Spotted Gum & Jarrah. From first contact we make choosing the right flooring for your project simple and convenient. We will arrange for qualified, experienced & insured installers to lay your floor, or we can package all you will need to install your floor yourself! And yes, you’re right on both counts: 1. I’m a passionate ambassador for Lactoferrin & have been since 1999 when I was privileged to enter the specialised Nutraceutical field before eventually moving into collaboration with Professors in multiple Universities on trials & studies employing Lactoferrin in the process. 2. You’re certainly on the right track, as Lactoferrin is the No.1# go to for Anemia. Lactoferrin is safe for all age groups, very effective & extremely well tolerated. I’ve witnessed its ability to actually save lives, such as when my beautiful little Granddaughter Azalia who was at the time under 1yr, less than 8kgs and hospitalised being diagnosed with Clostridium after suffering from a week of constant diarrhea & projectile vomiting with a GP recommending flat lemonade! In hospital things became far worse as she was dehydrated & against my advice given a small dose of Paracetemol which thank God she fought against & spat out. I returned home approx 2hrs away already deeply concerned for her and that same night the paperwork was somehow outrageously misconstrued and she was given a subsequent dose for a 23kg infant!! Had she not thank God again fought and spat the majority out, she would definitely had died as her liver & kidneys shut down with nil chance of reviving them. At that point I recommended that the Lactoferrin be mixed into mashed organic banana and amazingly she made a full recovery within a few days, as well as gained overall weight to be beaming in just one week. Only God’s mother’s milk secret could have done the trick & it did. Thankfully Azalia still has vibrant health 13yrs on, having recently travelled to the USA to compete in a dance competition. There are many other great stories I could share of others who have greatly benefited from Lactoferrin including mature aged Cancer sufferers defying the odds despite terrible prognosis living full & long productive lives, with some still enjoying excellent quality of life today including a now 18yr Multiple Myeloma case. Present in all orifices (even in tears) and the front line mechanism to protect our body against infection & disease, Lactoferrin occurs in breast milk for the first 1-3 days of life. It is

IRON MATTERS & the amazing virtues of LACTOFERRIN

Q : Since reading much of your literature over many years, it seems you’re a strong advocate for the use of Lactoferrin. Both my wife and I have just had blood tests for the 1st time in 2 years and now realise we’re both very low in iron. Could this be the reason we’re constantly feeling tired even after sleeping soundly and always seem to be lacking energy. We were putting it down to just working too hard and not being in our 20s anymore! (that was actually a long time ago lol). It will be really appreciated if you can expound on the mechanisms & benefits of Lactoferrin, whether it will be beneficial in our particular case, as well as how much to take. Also any other natural strategies that in your experience work best for boosting iron to get us back on an even keel and energized again. FYI we both presently have no prescription medication and are hoping that this will remain the case. A : Anemia by definition is the result of untreated iron deficiency and in the majority of instances is due to insufficient nutritional intake via poor dietary choices. There can however be many other reasons for the condition. Some of these are when the body destroys or doesn’t create sufficient red blood cells, a lack of B12/D/C, pregnancy & more, though low iron levels can stem from a range of health problems. As in all cases, it’s best & wise to get professional dietary counseling for individually tailored advice towards corresponding relevant diagnostics if required in order to be certain as to why iron levels actually are low. As the old saying goes forewarned is forearmed, early detection is always best & really does save lives in many cases. This is why I encourage those over 40 in addition to annual bloods tests to have both a Colonoscopy & Gastroscopy every 2 years, regardless of any genetic predisposition to bowel or other cancers. Anemia is far more common in women for obvious reasons, though in recent times it has become a widespread condition in both sexes particularly for those choosing vegetarian/ vegan lifestyles void of all meat intake. It’s certainly easy to maintain adequate iron levels not eating red meat, which I personally only did for 6 months of my whole life and recent tests confirm all iron studies to be A1. Nevertheless, in the absence of enjoying at least clean wild caught fish regularly & moderate amounts of delicious healthy duck (also wonderfully anti inflammatory & great heart food as Asians always knew), many & more women will suffer low levels and struggle with major fatigue, brain fog & depression. The wise enjoy plenty of

far superior to Colostrum, itself a respected Sports supplement. Lactoferrin is on another level, used by elite athletes who understand it is a genuine powerful Nutraceutical in its own right – and the only substance in nature that actually regulates iron in the body. Here’s a basic synopsis of the manifold benefits and bonuses of daily Lactoferrin far above & beyond its proven ability to Naturally boost & sustain healthy iron levels:

• Anti-bacterial • Anti-microbial • Antioxidant • Anti-ageing • Anti-viral • Acne reduction

• Immune Modulator • Anti-inflammatory • Regulates BP • Uniquely Probiotic • Eradicates H Pylori (cause of stomach ulcers) • Anti-fungal • Potential Anti-cancer • Bone health (promotes Osteoblast activity) • Bowel regulation Standard recommended daily dosage is just 1/4 teaspoon Morning & Night. Splitting the quantity will be more beneficial than a single daily serving. Pending individual reasons for consuming Lactoferrin, dosage may be substantially increased in order to derive greater benefits. Pertinent to note that with so many counterfeits & substandard material marketed online, nearly all of the Lactoferrin on offer is not High Grade and also diluted with Colostrum which is both substantially inferior & also cheap to source. Consumers need to be informed in order to be on the lookout for these. Problem being the love of money runs the internet & people cannot discern it. If something seems too cheap, there will surely be shortchanging happening. Shrewd labeling for encapsulated Lactoferrin deceives many by creating the false impression of both potency & value for money. Lactoferrin should be pink in colour & never mixed with any other substance. Due to its natural consistency, it cannot be simply swallowed with water or juice and rather may be enjoyed in Plain Organic Biodynamic or Coconut Yoghurt (ideal with Maqui Berry) and/ or with Organic Banana/Kiwifruit/Watermelon/ Rockmelon or Min. 20+ TA Raw Honey. It's also fine blended into smoothies, though far too precious to potentially waste any residue in the process.

Why eat Sourdough bread? S ourdough starters are referred to as “ferments” or “cultures”, which are complex microorganisms such as botulism, E. coli and moulds cannot

reproduce in an environment with a pH below 4.6 This keeps sourdough bread mould free naturally (no artificial preservatives). Naturally leavened bread is easily assimilated by the body and does not produce yeast overgrowth, so is often recommended by health care professionals. Sourdough cultures contain multiple species of yeast and lactic acid-producing bacteria, which help control yeast overgrowths. Another health benefit of sourdough bread is that it has a lower glycemic index. Sourdough bread’s glycemic index is also lower if the flour is stoneground, which means it has larger flour particles.

ecosystems composed of multiple species of yeast and lactic acid producing bacteria whereas ordinary baker’s yeast is a single variety of manufactured yeast that can make dough rise fast without complete fermentation. Sourdough bacteria are lactic acid-producing bacteria (lactobacilli) that are also found in numerous other fermented foods (like yoghurt). These bacteria (which need a minimum of 12 hours to ferment) produce many benefits including increasing the nutritional value of a food. They also create the wonderful unique flavours and textures of real sourdough. The pH of sourdough is around 4, whereas the pH of Baker’s yeast is 5.5 to 6. Pathogenic

Diet and Nutrition for Vitamin D

V itamin D is both a nutrient we eat and a hormone our bodies make. We need vitamin D, but it doesn’t all have to come from your diet. That’s important to know because there are few foods that are reliable sources of vitamin D. If you spend enough time in the sun, then your body can make all the vitamin D it needs. Vitamin D has several important functions. These include regulating the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, growth and development of bones and teeth, helps immune system function. Vitamin D is a part of a large bone-making and maintenance family. Vitamin D’s role in bone growth is to maintain blood concentrations of calcium and phosphorus. The bones grow denser and stronger as they absorb and

The best dietary sources of vitamin D are fatty fish such as salmon, herring, sardines and mackerel, eggs, mushrooms, fortified margarines, milk and yoghurt. In Australia, vitamin D fortification is mandated for margarines. It is voluntary for low-fat milk, powdered milk, yoghurt and soy milk. With so few foods being a reliable source it is the sun we turn to for most of our needs. Sun exposure accounts for more than 80 percent of the vitamin D in your body but prolonged exposure to sunlight does present the risk of skin cancer. This is very relevant in our country. The Cancer Council advises that when UV levels are 3 or above, extended sun exposure is not recommended. This is even for those with vitamin D deficiency.

deposit these minerals. In adults, the disease of vitamin D deficiency is called Osteomalacia which results in bone and muscle pains, and an increased risk of fractures. Osteoporosis is a condition like Osteomalacia. In this case, it is from a decrease in bone mass rather than a change in the mix of minerals in the bones. But the result is a higher risk of fractures. As well as keeping bones healthy, vitamin D helps with balance. If a person is low in vitamin D, and has poor muscle strength, they may be at greater risk of falls. Falls are a serious health concern, especially among elderly, because of the injuries they cause. Because vitamin D is only found in a few foods, with the sun being the major source, less-mobile people are at a greater risk of deficiency.
