SEPTEMBER 2019

A PUBLICATION ABOUT LIFE AT FRENCHMAN’S CREEK BY, FOR AND ABOUT OUR MEMBERS

The Homefront column is designed to inform our members where in the community our new residents are living and other residences they may have. It also keeps up with our present members who have stayed in the community but moved to new dwellings. Of course we always wish our members who are moving out of the community good luck wherever their travels take them and our new members and established members good luck in their new address.

This month, we are happy to welcome,

PAMELA and LAWRENCE HANDEN. They

purchased Marilyn Gushner’s home on Le Bateau Drive.

They also reside in New York.

Minx Boren sends us this news about her latest accomplishment and upcoming lectures at FAU.

For a number of years we have been trying to get an Exchangecolumn and now in conjunction with Channel 999, we have an Exchange Column and TV segment. Ticket Exchange (buying a ticket), borrow, lend or give to a fellow member (generic ladies) i.e. baby supplies, crib, high chair, that they may need for a few days or you are finished with baby supplies. These are just a few examples of what can be wanted and looked for…. TODAY: HELEN ANN and AL EISEN have two season tickets to the Maltz Theater 4 play series that they unfortunately have to sell. Plays begin in November.. Please call them at 561-776-9156 if you are interested.

A NEW “EXCHANGE”

COLUMN

SIMI and RON POMERANTZ announce with great pride, the graduation of their granddaughter Nicole, from the University of Maryland with a B.A., Magna Cum Laude, in Public Policy “in just 3 years”! She is currently pursuing her Master’s in Public Health and planning to attend Law School as the next step on her wonderful journey.

NANCY and PETER BERKLEY traveled to Scotland for the 2019 Solheim Cup – Team USA vs Team Europe – September 13-15. The Solheim is played in alternate years of the men’s Ryder Cup, which uses a similar format. Nancy has been writing about women’s golf for many years and this is the fourth Solheim Cup she has covered for media. The Solheim Cup and Ryder Cup each have twelve-person teams. Friday and Saturday are two-somes in alternate-shot and fourballs. Sunday are the singles matches. Spoiler Alert: After three days of competition, the winner was determined by a European birdie putt on the eighteenth hole on Sunday afternoon. Suzanne Petersen of Sweden made the winning putt. The twelve-person teams are based on performance records during the previous seasons and each Captain has “Captain’s Picks.” Nancy’s daily blogs for the LPGA Women’s Network are at https:// lpgawomensnetwork.com/author/nberkley/ . The Solheim Cup was played at the Nicklaus-designed Centenary course at Gleneagles. It is beautiful. Nicklaus himself commented that it is among the most

beautiful stretches of countryside he has ever developed. The crowds were huge and set attendance records. The 2021 Solheim Cup will be in Toledo, Ohio. The men’s Ryder Cup in 2020 will be at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin. Sharing some pictures: Peter

and Nancy at the train station in Stirling, Scotland – short train ride to the course. Posters for the Solheim were everywhere. Photo to the side showing the 17 th hole Par 3 on Sunday.
