Rationale:

– Lactoferrin is an important component of the innate immune system – Bovine lactoferrin is recognized as functional food ingredient and has been used in a wide variety of products such as infant formula, probiotics, supplemental tablets, pet food, and cosmetics and as a natural solubilizer of iron in food – The form of the added lactoferrin determines the biologically relevance. Therefore the method must be able to distinguish intact lactoferrin from its hydrolyzed forms. In addition, for the purpose of this SMPR, lactoferrin must be in the soluble fraction of the matrices defined in the SMPR Implications:
