Conclusions

Are Methods Still in Use? Yes Do any of the fit-for-purpose methods currently lack utility?

Some are dated by injection volumes, column particle size, and detector wavelengths. Is more than one SMPR needed based on intended use or are any revisions needed for the current SMPRs SMPRs do not need to change significantly. The unit for Vitamin E is now Tocopherol Equivalents (TE) and the conversion has changed for dl-forms of tocopherols. Some methods are dated for current equipment and column technology. These could be slightly modified/improved using minor changes such as current detectors at optimal wavelengths, smaller column particle size, and reduced injection volumes. Is there a requirement to know the amount of d vs dl tocopherols? For the sake of antioxidant capacity, probably not. For biological activity – yes. To correctly calculate the TE, a method needs to distinquish d vs dl tocopherols. If it becomes necessary/desirable to calculate the contribution of TE from other tocols, methods would need to be modified or expanded Any gaps in types of methodology needed based on review
