AOAC CASP Meeting

Training and Educational Opportunities

• General microbiology guidance for cannabis laboratories • Many labs employ non‐microbiologists to conduct micro testing.  There is a  need for training modules or educational materials covering aseptic  technique and sample workflow specific to cannabis laboratories • Principles of microbiological testing • Presence/absence (qualitative) vs. quantitative testing • Importance of entire testing process (i.e. enrichment, qPCR,  morphological identification, etc.) • Additional resources covering the general definitions used within AOAC/CASP  related to method validation and verification of microbiological methods .  • Guidance document on best practices for molecular methods • Development of microbiological testing reference method(s) for current and  potential targets ( Salmonella , STEC, Aspergillus , e.t.c.)  • Use CASP as a forum to share data already generated and further current  research
