SUPERINTENDENT’S COMMENTS — DR. TODD WENDT

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Change in Parent/Teacher Conference Schedule In early November, all parents will have an opportunity to find out about the progress their student is having in the classroom. Because of the potential of playing in the regional finals of the volleyball tournament on November 5, we have made an adjustment to the parent/teacher conference schedule. Parents will have a chance to visit with teachers about each of their student’s successes and suggestions for improvement at parent/teacher conferences on November 7 and 11 from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Please make every effort to attend conferences. Your attendance will help send the message to your student that you and the adults at the school are working together to meet your child’s educational needs. Weather Related Announcements Usually in November we need to start thinking again about the possibility of having to make weather related school announcements. Your best bet for getting accurate and up to date information is to listen to 1410 KLEM because we communicate directly with KLEM regarding school announcements. In addition, we make contact with the Le Mars Daily Sentinel, KTIV Channel 4, and SNOWCAP. The Le Mars Daily Sentinel has a text messaging system that will send a text to your phone when a school related weather announcement has been made. I have also used this messaging service to get non- weather related messages out that I felt needed to get out immediately. I highly recommend signing up for this service if you have a cell phone. Sign up is very easy and available at http:// www.lemarssentinel.com . KTIV Channel 4 also has a text alert messaging system that has been reliable in the past. I use this system for only weather related announcements. If you had signed up for this service in the past, you recently received a text asking you to respond to the message to maintain service. If you didn’t receive the text or have not signed up in the past, the process is very easy. You can find it at http:// www.ktiv.com . We use Snowcap because it notifies all the Sioux City media outlets other than KTIV. We will continue with Snowcap again this year so the other television and radio stations in Sioux City have our weather related announcements. Parents can sign up at http://www.snowcaponline.net to receive an e-mail or cell phone alert when we have a weather related announcement. Congratulations and Good Luck! The Big Red Band earned a Division I rating at the state marching band contest held in Sheldon on October 12. The band under the direction of Mr. Ohrlund, and assisted by Mr. Ewing, Mr. Benton, and Mrs. Benton, has had strong performances in other contests this fall as well. Congratulations to these students and directors in the success they are enjoying this fall.

All-state music auditions where held in late October and I look forward to reporting the names of students selected for this honor in the December issue of the Bulldog Highlights. Good luck to all the students trying out for all-state and Mr. Hallberg, Mr. Ohrlund, and Mr. Ewing.

on parent-teacher conference nights.

Cross country, volleyball, and football are winding down their regular seasons and preparing for the post season at the time I am writing this article. Cross country coaches Al Engebretson and Adam Moss were busy preparing for districts in late October. Gabe Tardive and his staff are working to get the Bulldog football team prepared for their first playoff game on October 30. Susan Irwin and the Bulldog volleyball team have had an excellent season and play their first game of the post season at home on October 31. Good luck to all the students and coaches involved in these activities as they progress through the post season.
