HOWTOFIND INTERIORDESIGNINSPIRATION The internet is awash in images of beautiful homes – so much so that it can be overwhelming to find true inspiration. If you’re looking to change up your home decor, or perhaps you’re just starting out with an empty room, there are a few ways you can narrow down your search for inspiring spaces. 1. Search using specific keywords. Both Google Images and Pinterest are excellent places to find design inspiration. But don’t simply type “interior design” or “home decor” into the search bar, unless you want an endless parade of photos to wade through. Think about colours, patterns or home styles you’re drawn to and type those keywords in instead. For example, if you really like the colour blue and the ever-popular farmhouse style, try typing in “blue farmhouse decor.” 2. Use Instagram hashtags. Instagram is the place where professional – and amateur – designers show off their gorgeous interiors. Instead of following individuals or brands, try following hashtags. If you’re digging the industrial loft space vibe, begin by typing in #industrialdecor and see what other tags pop up. Follow those that interest you and then keep an eye out for them in your feed. 3. Magazines are still a thing! You don’t even need a computer for this method. In fact, you don’t even need to buy a magazine. Simply visit your local home and building supply store and flip through the magazines near the checkout. You’ll be amazed at the variety of beautiful spaces. Plus, if you see a room that you want to recreate – you’re only steps away from the paint aisle!

WHATDOESITMEANTOHAVEAPHDINARCHITECTURE? Just as with almost any academic subject – you can obtain a PhD in architecture through rigorous work and much dedication. An individual who has obtained a doctorate in this field has a wealth of knowledge on a specific area of architecture, whether that be urban planning, sustainable design or building construction. But does having a PhD in architecture make a person a better architect? Experts say, not necessarily – primarily because of the convincing argument that knowledge does not equal creativity. A person can be both highly knowledgeable and highly creative, but it’s also possible for someone to have a much smaller amount of knowledge and still be a creative talent.
