TE14-09 LAWRENCE MILLMAN “The Saga of Redhead” (a tale)

Lawrence Millman (born in Kansas City, 1948) is a world explorer currently living in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He holds a Ph.D. from Rutgers University and has published over sixteen books, including Last Places (translated into eleven languages), A Kayak Full of Ghosts (translated into Icelandic, among other languages), and Hero Jesse (recently published in France to considerable claim). His work has appeared in Smithsonian , National Geographic Adventure , Islands , and more. He has made over 30 trips to the Arctic and Subarctic, discovered a previously unknown lake in Borneo, and shared his name with a mountain outside Tasiilaq in eastern Greenland. “The Saga of Redhead” is a spin-off of an old Icelandic folktale that Millman heard from a fisherman in 1987. He plays with plot and characters, while simultaneously mocking and honoring the Icelandic saga genre.
