Record breaking sawing machine built

THE largest carbide circular sawing machine that Linsinger has ever built has been deployed in South Korea. The innovative technology allows steel billets up to 800mm diameter to be cut enabling customers to benefit from a big rise in production efficiency. The Austrian company Linsinger is famous for solutions concerning sawing technology even when difficult problems occur, which other companies find a hard nut to crack. The latest example is the vertical circular saw KSA 2200 DPD, which will be delivered to a ring-roller mill in South Korea. The machine is able to process round as angled and quadratic material and with its saw blade diameter of 2,200mm it is the biggest saw that Linsinger has ever produced. Two revolutionary technologies designed by Linsinger make it possible to run a machine with saw blades of this dimension for the first time ever. The heart of the new high-power circular sawing machine is the double power drive (DPD). This is a special gear that can work with extremely small flanges and transfer highest moments of torsion. “This patented system, which was entirely designed in our own sawing centre of excellence with a huge complexity, means an innovation advance of several years,” said Linsinger CEO Hans Knoll. DPD is the archetype for a successful strategy of in sourcing, which Linsinger has relied on for many years – all evolution and manufacturing steps are carried out in the company itself. And due to the intense communication between Linsinger and its worldwide customers, they are always involved in the constant innovation process. Lincut boosts output performances and lowers the costs. This is also true for the development of the patented Lincut disc

millers, which are also used in the KSA 2200 DPD and designate a technological breakthrough. During the process the cutting tips are not brazed on the ground body but screwed on it so that they can be changed individually and easily, which means directly on the machine. The regular, logistically complex transport to a re-sharpening centre is omitted. Furthermore, the Lincut technology increases the tool life considerably so that the machine stops for the saw blade to be changed are reduced. The tool costs are lower than conven- tional, brazed saw blades, nevertheless Lincut can increase the output performance by 30%. This has already clearly certified true in the three shift operation over many years of experiences. “Lincut proves its worth already in 30 sawing plants with an excellent success

all over the world. From the first cuts till the industrial use several years pass,” emphasises Hans Knoll. Another huge advantage: Linsinger delivers machines and tools from one single source and is therefore able to guarantee considerable quality, which performs to an excellent level over decades. KSA 2200 DPD will be used in Korea among others for the production of ship crankshafts and gear rings for wind towers. The “mega-saw” with its forward-looking innovations is further proof that Linsinger is taking great demands on all its products: offering the best technology combined with economical methods.
