“B eyond the age of information is the age of choices,” said Charles Eames in 1971, as the impact of global communication was becoming clearer. Certainly in the stroller market; choices abound. Cybex, the German design company which takes cues from the mid-century modern couple in the look and feel of their strollers, ensures that the design incorporates the necessary functionality both purposefully and beautifully. In reviewing Cybex’s most recent mobility offering, the Mios, we are struck by the simplicity and timelessness of the design. It’s clear that the selection of features gears the stroller to a fashionable urban parent who relies on the vehicle to navigate their life. The chrome crisscrossing frame is architectural in feel, sturdy and luxurious. Its airy seat is made of mesh, perfect for warmer days. The mesh maximizes breathability and helps regulate the child’s temperature, adding to the feeling of lightness and ease. The narrow footprint means it’s simple to navigate the city without intruding on others. The stroller has all the bells and whistles of a premium ride, with an optional bassinet, a reversible seat, an adjustable handlebar, all wheel suspension, a seat insert for when the weather turns cold and an ample shopping basket underneath. It combines with the Cybex series car seats without an adapter making a stylish travel system. All of these details add up. As Eames himself said, “The details are not the details. They make the design.” 8
