Toreros Set Program Record by Advancing to Sweet 16 Led by the 2004 wee Coach of the Year Jennifer Petrie and wee Player of the Year Devon Forster, San Diego (25-4) celebrated its most successful season in program history in 2004. USO won the West Coast Conference Championship (a league that sent four teams to the NCAA Tournament) outright, posting a perfect 14-0 conference record. It was San Diego's first WCC Championship since winning back-to-back titles in 1997 & 1998. Never before has a Torero team finished WCC play unbeaten and never before has San Diego advanced past the NCAA's second round . San Diego received a No. 9 national seed in the NCAA Tournament and achieved a national ranking as high as No. 11 by the AVCA on December 6, 2004. San Diego won 18 consecutive matches from October 1-December 4. Prior to San Diego's championship season of 2004, USD's best league finish was 13-1 in 1997.
