13. Telephone / internet / mobile phone contracts Concerning telephone / internet / mobile phone contracts: if you intend to conclude a contract which is fixed for a certain period (e.g. 2 years) and renews automatically for a year, an early cancellation might not be possible without further charges and your provider might charge you until the end of the contract. For mobile phone contracts, it is highly recommended to carefully look at the termination options. Many offers appear very attractive, however, are combined with minimum two-year contracts with no termination possible during the minimum time period or paying a considerable compensation payment to terminate the contract early. In some instances, you have to pay the full amount due until the end of the contract in a lump sum to get out of the contract. In many cases it is possible to terminate the contract if proof is provided that you have left the country. For most providers the only acceptable proof is the de-registration document from the town hall and the cancellation period only starts to count from the moment you provide this document. This means that even in the event of an early termination you may have to pay for at least 3 months after your departure.
