ENTSOG GRIP South - Main Report

6.4.3 MaximizationofNorwegiangas

As mentioned in the Supply chapter, “the supply potential fromNorway is set to remain fairlyconstant over thecomingyears, according toENTSOG, andso it should be expected that SouthRegion imports of Norwegian gaswill remain fairly constant over the next ten years accordingly”. For that reason, this document didn’t go deeper in the analysis of the Targeted Maximization of the Norwegian gas supply. Nevertheless, the assessment done in the ENTSOG TYNDP 2013–2022 regarding the “Supply Source Diversification Assessment” showed that similar results are obtained for the Iberian Peninsula in theMaximization of the Norwegian gas simulation when compared to themaxi mizationofRussiangassimulation. In thissituation, with then-FIDprojects foreseen for 2022, bothPortugal andSpain can also have access toNorwegian gas covering at least 5% to 20% of its total supply.

6.4.4 KeyConclusions

Key conclusions obtained in the assessment Capability for supply source diversi fication for the SouthRegion are: \\ The development of the new transmission projects creating a new route from the South contributes to consolidate a well-meshed network, enable the access to a new one supply source, facilitates the establishment of diversified suppliers’ portfolios and improves the robustness of the gas network, making it more flexible. \\ The effect creating liquidity in the market opening possibilities of arbitrage between the different European gas sourcesmakes the transmission system a powerful contributor to the price convergence in the area.
