’Tis the season for holiday planning along with preparing for another winter with cold nights and high fuel bills. Please remember your friends and neighbors who may be feeling the financial stress that goes with staying warm and safe and consider donating to the Island Fuel Fund. The generous support of the island community allows the Council to provide fuel assistance to anyone in need. Call Ester at 846-4178 to arrange for fast, anonymous help with all types of heating fuel. Please send your donations to the Chebeague Island Council, P.O. Box 12, Chebeague Island, ME 04017. The entire community thanks you. The new steps on the Thrift Shop are almost finished, and they look great. Thank you to Michael Darling for doing a great job and being so easy to work with! The Council is grateful to the former Grange members for allowing us to take over ownership of this lovely old building and continue the summer Thrift Shop. And thank you to Bruce Riddle for repairing the parking area and allowing the Thrift Shop customers to continue to use the old “Grange Road.” The Chedemption baggettes have been working hard sending over the last of the bags and boxes from this summer! Casco Bay Lines allows only a limited number of bags or pallets at a time, so it has taken this long to clear up the backlog. If you believe in the importance of recycling, in clean oceans, and in supporting the island nonprofits, please call Ann Thaxter and find out how you can help. The Council Board would like to wish everyone Merry Christmas and a safe, happy, and healthy New Year. See you at the Whalers Concert! The Recompense Fund annual reports are coming soon; please watch for yours in the mail. As a fund supported by many Chebeaguers for the benefit of the nonprofit community and in turn the sustainability of the island we love, the report provides information about all aspects of our activities. One of our goals is to be totally transparent, so we are showing the money we have raised; the names of our donors, especially the generous Raymond Family Foundation challenge; every grant made; our investment results; and the progress of our endowment. If you did not receive a copy, please contact recompensefund@ gmail.com . Happy Holidays to all! News from the Recompense Fund
