2018 Programs and Projects Nutrition, Health, and Genetics Protect and Enhance Future Demand

ONGOING Science-Based Educational Projects International Milk Genomics Consortium (IMGC)

The IMGC provides a collaborative, interactive and pre-competitive platform for the scientific community and industry to accelerate the understanding of the biological processes underlying mammalian genomics and to facilitate the transition of that knowledge into usable benefits for animal and human health. Since 2003, the IMGC has fostered a 25-fold increase in collaborations among scientists, recruited 40+ new scientists each year, and increased the number of publications in the milk field by 2,582%, generating 1314 peer-reviewed papers. Ongoing since 2003. 2017 International Milk Genomics and Human Health Symposium: September 2017 More than 90 international experts in milk nutrition, human health, genomics, lactation and computational science gathered in Québec City, Canada to present their latest discoveries in milk and lactation at the 14th International Symposium on Milk Genomics and Human Health. The symposium aims to foster scientific collaborations between milk science experts from around the globe. There continues to be farmer participation and support for this symposium, with active dialogue between academia and industry that has real-world implications from dairy farmers to consumers. For every one attendee of the IMGC Symposium,1000 readers are driven to the IMGC website. Translating the Science of Milk Genomics A monthly newsletter called “SPLASH!® milk science update” translates and communicates complex science eloquently and credibly, in an easy-to-understand format so the industry is kept informed on cutting-edge topics in milk science, nutrition, health, and genetics. A total of 260 articles have now been published. Ongoing since 2012.

“SPLASH!® milk science update” is the only scientific newsletter in the world that is dedicated to emerging hot topics on milk nutrition, health, and genetics.
