Module one

Introduction and coaching with Mercuri Urval (MU), online (approximately 8 hours) This module includes orientation of the programme, introductions and content consumption. You will undertake a personal inventory of your leadership values and skills with our partner Mercuri Urval, a pioneer in the predictive assessment of people.

Module three

The realities of business leadership, face to face (five days residential)

Developing future thinking and realising personal capability, face to face (five days residential) This module focuses on resilience and planning for the future. You’ll explore building your ability to think more strategically and contribute to the future growth and success of your organisations. You’ll also identify a significant strategic project for your business which will form the basis of a robust business and personal action plan. Sessions throughout module two and three will provide you with the capabilities to implement this plan effectively, along with your own career goals, back at work. Sessions in module three include: • Leading organisational resilience, • Towards Mindful Action: Noticing more and responding effectively to the unexpected, • Mindfulness and building personal resilience, • Changing World, Changing World of Work, • Building networks to navigate the political system, • Forum theatre and role play - Becoming the senior leader, • Action planning, • Reflective discussions throughout the module. • What do boards look for?

In this module you’ll look at the realities of business leadership, understand the role of a senior leader and the responsibilities to take decisions, think more and bring others with you and the bigger picture with links between strategy, leadership and environment. You’ll explore: • The new global trends in the economy, • How to adapt your leadership for the 21st Century, • The politics of leadership, • Strategic leadership and competitive advantage, • Financial thinking for the senior leader’s mindset, • Becoming a senior leader, • Customer, markets and data led strategies for the new age, • Innovation in action! A group visit to a business incubator, • Active listening and tools for dialogue, • Reflective discussions throughout the module, • The outline for your Mercuri Urval 360 assessment and module three.

6-month progress review day, face-to-face One day 3 months after you complete Module 3 we invite you back to Cranfield to review the progress you have made against your action plans, and set new targets in light of your achievements to date.

12 month continuing development review day, online Approx. 2/3 hours To support your continuing development, we invite you back to a 12 month review day, delivered virtually, to reflect on the long-term impact of the programme, to gain insight into managing your personal development and to plan the next phase of your leadership career.

Programme philosophy

The programme content is delivered over three modules as part of an immersive learning and growth experience. Between modules you will apply your learning back in the workplace while working on plans for your business area, supported by peer-to-peer coaching and formal coaching from the programme director and Mercuri Urval. Ongoing coaching Throughout your Cranfield experience you will benefit from executive coaching which is focused on your growth as a leader and integrated into the programme structure including a face-to-face review after six months of starting the programme and a virtual review after 12 months.

Leadership and personal effectiveness In order to further enhance your personal effectiveness as a director this programme incorporates psychometric assessments, alongside individual coaching and personal development, to determine and maximise your leadership impact. These tests are conducted by our partner Mercuri Urval, a pioneer in the predictive assessment of people. During the course of the programme you’ll work to enhance your range of leadership and personal effectiveness skills, with content topics including:

Peter Thornton BEng (Hons) PGCert MBA Peter Thornton BEng (Hons) PGCert MBA Peter is an engineering and MBA graduate with extensive business and management experience across many industries and functions, having worked for 15 years in industry with Mercedes-Benz UK and the Rover Group. He specialises in the design, development and delivery of executive development programmes, including the UK Government Project Leadership Programme since 2015. He has worked with organisations across continents to deliver educational programmes that develop their focus, align their efforts and improve their processes to more effectively deliver their business goals.
