Chris Cannizzaro , now in his sixth season with the Tore ros, brings a wealth of major league expe rie nce to USD head coach Rich Hill 's staff. No stranger to base ball in the city of San Di– ego, Canni zzaro spent 13 yea rs in the majo rs - including two stints with the San Diego Pa– dres , whe re he became the first All-Star in Pa- dre baseball histo ry in the 1969 campaign. A durable defe nsive catche r, Cannizzaro p layed in 740 major league games whil e p laying fo r the St. Louis Cardinals 0960-61) , New York

Once his playing career ended , Cannizzaro shifted his focus to coaching and spe nt three seasons 0976-78) with the Atlanta Braves organization before coaching in the California Angels organizati on from 1979-82 in the Class A Cal State League. Cannizzaro has two sons - Chris Jr. and Ken , and a daughte r, Kimbe rlee. Chris Jr. was a two-time All– America selection at San Diego State where he was a teammate of USD head coach Rich Hill for one season. Cannizzaro also has three stepdaughters -Marcia, Tricia andJennifer. Aside from his lifelong passion for the game of baseball, Cannizzaro also enjoys golf and spending time with his four grandchildren - Brittney (16), Morgan (12), Zachary (11) and Cassidy (8).
