Q U O T E “The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it’s indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it’s indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it’s indifference.” – Elie Wiesel (Eliezer Wiesel was a Romania-born American novelist, political activist, and Holocaust survivor of Hungarian Jewish descent.) FURNISHINGAHOMEFROM SCRATCH While furnishing a new home from scratch can be an overwhelming and expensive endeavour, thorough research and patience can help cut costs – and stress. Here are four tips to consider before purchasing everything from a couch to a side table. 1. Pick a style: Deciding on your home’s design style before doing any shopping will help narrow the selection. 2. Be inspired: From design magazines to TV shows to websites to social media – you can find oodles of inspiration once you start actively looking. 3. Set a budget: Work out how much you want to spend – and on what – ahead of time. While you certainly don’t want to overspend, be careful not to go for cheap and poorly constructed items just to save a few dollars. Quality is key. 4. Living room first: Selecting furniture for your living room before other spaces ensures that ample attention is given to one of the most important areas of the home. Once the living room is in order, let it be the focal point of your design – allowing the rest of the home to take shape around it.
