“J CB took what was good and made it even better to be able to offer a machine that delivers what really matters most for end-users namely lowest overall total cost of ownership through productivity, uptime, fuel efficiency, operator comfort and safety and effortless servicing,” explains Mark Senyard, National Support and Marketing Manager at Kemach Equipment. “Many of the JCB VM 115’s features and capabilities have been optimised in the JCB 116D and due to the number of improvements, JCB decided on a nomenclature change to really differentiate the JCB 116 from its predecessor," he continues. Engineered for performance and productivity, the JCB 116 delivers a master stroke in compaction: Alongside a thicker drum (28 mm) and a 500 kg (4,6%) increase operating weight to 11350kg, improved weight distribution sees an increase on the front load to 6 350 kg (57% on drum). Vibrating mass has also been increased by 11% to reach 3 610 kg while a 13% increase in centrifugal force ensures very high performance. Furthermore, drum isolation has been optimised to ensure max- imum energy transfer to the soil. With all these improvements the JCB 116 D will outperform any other machine in its class, delivering better levels of compaction and reducing the number of passes required to achieve the desired compaction requirements, ultimately saving end-users both time and fuel required in getting the job done. From a fuel perspective, the machine’s best-in-class fuel efficiency JCB has introduced a number of productivity boosting improvements to its tried and trusted JCB VM115 single drum compactor and with this evolution also comes a new name – the JCB 116 D, supplied and serviced by Kemach Equipment. positions the JCB 116 head and shoulders above its nearest compet- itor: JCB DieselMax 444 85 kW 114 4-cylinder, water cooled engine which operates with a mechanical direct fuel injection system is 5% more fuel efficient than same sized machines in the market. Increased torque also results in improved response and an increase in speed to 10,5 km/h. Tests have confirmed that fuel consumption measured during highway compaction is an impressive 8 to 9 litres/hr. Built to last, the machine will display its unparalleled reliabili- ty, proven by extended endurance testing, in any soil compaction application, ensuring optimum uptime and prolonged life cycle. The improved frame thickness to 40 mm also lends a more rugged and robust shape. When it comes to operator safety and comfort, the JCB 116 car- ries on the tradition of best-in-industry from its forerunner. All-round ergonomic enhancements, based on in-depth analyses, include smooth drive lever with increased lever height and improved platform isolation. An innovative redesign of the bonnet provides better operator visibility and subsequently improves safety. The JCB 116 is available as a Canopy or full ROPS/FOPS cab with A/C. LiveLink is Standard and a compaction meter is optional. The redesign also sees a more compact machine with a reduction in the total travel length to 5 408 mm; the 70 mm overhang makes it ideal for work in confined spaces. “With a direct correlation between fast, hassle-free servicing and uptime, JCB made sure that here too improvements were addressed,” notes Senyard. The centre joint is maintenance-free and the 70% bon- net angle has increased bonnet opening by 100%. According to Sen- yard, easy accessibility from ground level to all key servicing points has seen an impressive overall service rating improvement of 26%. Defined by performance, reliability, uptime, efficiency and produc- tivity, all key drivers to end-users’ profitability, the new JCB 116 D is a master compactor. 
