Application time! All Chebeague Island nonprofits are invited to apply for 2026 grants from The Recompense Fund. Grant guide lines will be available at: https://www.recompensefund.com/ In 2025, Recompense distributed $89,580 to nine island nonprofits, and two $500 grants for teacher appreciation week and to the Whalers. The larger grants went to: The Chebeague Cumberland Land Trust ($7,911) to support restoration of Indian Point Chebeague Community Church ($7,776) for the music program Chebeague Island Historical The Recompense Fund is happy to announce the 2026 grant recipients.As always, we thank our donors’ continuing generosity. Chebeague Community Church: $20,075 to help close the annual operating budget gap, while the church looks to cost saving measures and new funding Chebeague-Cumberland Land Trust: $4,000 for new signs for protected places on Chebeague, to improve the visiting experience MacBeth Concert Series, through CICA: $11,000 toward production costs of “The Sound of Music,” a full-cast staging coming in August 2027. Chebeague Island Historical Society: $17,927 toward continuing improvements in controlling humidity and temperature, to preserve the CIHS collection Chebeague Island Commons: $20,000 toward the costs of employees’ transportation services
Society ($9,740) for environmental controls Chebeague Island Commons ($15,269) to defray employees’ transportation costs Chebeague Recreation Center ($7,699) toward the pool’s heat exchanger Chebeague Transportation Company ($8,411) toward repairs to the barge engine Kids’ Place ($10,086) for heat pumps Chebeague Island Library ($9,971) to update the nonfiction collection Stephen Ross Foundation ($11,703) for island students’ higher education scholarships The Recompense Fund deeply appreciates the ongoing support of our donors. Chebeague Island Recreation Center/Kids’ Place: $10,000 to buy and install a generator Chebeague Island Recreation Center: $10,000 for a generator that can provide electricity, heat and showers during outages so that CRC may become a warming station for the island Chebeague Island Hall Community Center: $2,440 for an electrical engineer, who will assess the building’s electrical service and recommend a new service design Chebeague Island Hall Community Center/veterinarian service: $600 to pay for parking for the monthly veterinary clinic Chebeague Island Library: $18,000 to help complete the building of a workspace addition P lease visit https://www.recompensefund.com/ for more information on our mission.
