HIGHLIGHTING INSECURITIES Seeing images of seemingly flawless individuals or posts about others' accomplishments can trigger feelings of insecurity and self-doubt. It may amplify pre-existing insecurities about one's appearance, achievements, or overall life satisfaction. Do you post about your best moments or the moments you wish you could forget? Social media often presents an idealized version of people's lives, highlighting their achievements, experiences, and physical appearances while failing to point out their difficult moments. Constant exposure to these carefully curated posts can lead to comparing oneself unfavorably and feeling inadequate in comparison. SOCIAL COMPARISON Have you ever posted a photo and watched the likes like a hawk? Social media platforms often revolve around accumulating likes, comments, and followers, which can create a need for external validation. Constant exposure to these images can distort one's perception of beauty and lead to body dissatisfaction and low self esteem. UNREALISTIC BEAUTY STANDARDS Spending excessive time on social media can lead to decreased productivity, isolation, and neglect of real life activities. Without interpersonal socialization, you can feel guilt or low self-esteem due to not achieving personal goals or maintaining healthy relationships. ADDICTION AND TIME-WASTING SOCIAL MEDIA Who doesn't love to mindlessly scroll through cat videos and updates from friends you knew 10+ years ago? However, social media can positively and negatively affect your self-esteem. While it can provide opportunities for self-expression and connection, it can also contribute to feelings of inadequacy and low self-worth. Here are some ways in which social media can impact your self-esteem:
