hermetic seal in the ferrule. Induction heating fromAmbrell Rebranded and on show at IWCS

Ambrell has been manufacturing induction heating equipment since 1986, with its products CE certified and with ISO9001:2008 accreditation. With a focus on heating solutions and service with a prompt response, customers can leverage its applications lab to ensure systems are built to the exact requirements. Ambrell’s knowledge in induction heating applications and the innovative spirit of the company prove effective for a huge variety of branches. It recently tested an application of hermetically sealing a fibre optic cable in a Kovar ferrule. The materials included the PANDA PM fibre with 0.25mm diameter, a Kovar ferrule of 2.2mm diameter and metal enclosure 50mm x 27mm x 5.9mm thick. The soldering process was performed adding solder preforms and a flux with the goal of reaching a temperature of 232ºC. Engineers designed a single turn channel coil while the assembly is fluxed at the joint area and the power needed to be applied for 15 seconds to create the

Pourtier and Setic, manufacturer of rotating machines for the non-ferrous wire and cable industry, recently re-branded its new machine division located in Greensboro, North Carolina, USA, under the name of Pourtier and Setic of America. The company, with over 20 years in the market and several major machine installations in the USA, will be exhibiting at IWCS in Rhode Island, USA, from 9 th to 12 th November, on booth 405. This product line includes Pourtier’s successful rigid stranders and drum twisters for producing low, medium and high-voltage cable and conductors, as well as Setic’s large and small double twist bunchers, and a complete line of machines for the production of LAN and special cable.

Due to the versatility of Ambrell’s induction heating equipment, choosing the right unit and determining frequency needs were no challenge to the engineering department. The 1.2kW Easyheat induction heating system with the frequency of 346kHz was equipped with a remote workhead to achieve the customer’s application objectives. The Easyheat needed 15 seconds to complete the task. The customer chose Ambrell over competitors due to the ability to design the single channel ‘C’ coil. The coil heated quickly so that the heat did not reach sensitive components in the case. illustrates numerous advantages of the use of induction heating in the cable industry. The Easyheat power supplies are easy to operate. Equipped to operate over a broad frequency range (150-400 kHz), Easyheat is suitable for heating parts of many geometries and compositions with excellent power control.
