NEW KNOWLEDGE, INNOVATIONS, AND IMPROVEMENTS

LewisGale Regional Health System Annual Research Day, April 2017 Enhancing the Patient Experience: Using the Evidence to Ensure Quality and Service Excellence

Christy Sutphin and Dyana Williams, nurses at LewisGale Hospital Montgomery, chaired the 2017 Annual Research Day Committee and were honored to host Lyn Ketelsen, MBA, RN, Vice President and Chief Patient Experience Officer, HCA Corporate, as the 2017 keynote speaker. Lyn is HCA’s first system-wide Chief Patient Experience Officer. She is responsible for leveraging best practices that have been developed at HCA’s 166 affiliated hospitals and other healthcare providers throughout the company to help ensure patients have the best experience possible. Prior to joining HCA in early 2015, Lyn worked for the Studer Group for 13 years. Her role as a senior leader and coach allowed the opportunity to work with hundreds of organizations to put prescriptive elements in place that drive results. During her tenure with Studer Group, she co-authored the largest study ever conducted on reducing call lights which was published in AJN in September, 2006, and in conjunction with that study became the birth mother of hourly rounds. Lyn’s presentation was energetic and there were 86 attendees present to enjoy learning about her research and how to apply nursing research and evidence-based practice into personal clinical practice.
