Region 10 - Annual Golf Event Steve Hunt – 10 Region Secretary.

30 members and friends gathered at the prestigious Essex Golf and Country Club at Earls Colne near Coggishall Essex on Thursday 5th April 2017 where recent unprecedented wet weather had reduced the course to, ‘no trolleys’ let alone buggies so a sodden challenging event faced the players as well as carrying their own clubs – for the annual 10 Region Golf Tournament! Old friendships were renewed and new ones made over coffee and bacon rolls at the registration process plus some new faces were made very welcome! The competition was probably the most challenging to date and the results were as follows; Overall winning team; Neil Offord, Martin D’eath and Laurie Austin with 112 points Runners-up – Mick Ornelles, Alan Lewis, Kevin Ward and Andy Polley – with 110 points. The individual winner was Kevin Ward with a healthy 39 points. Nearest the pin winner (5) was Dean Coyle, nearest the pin winner (17) was Mick Ornelles. The winner of the longest drive (10) was Tony McDonnell. After a tasty meal of ham egg and chips the prizes were presented by Region 10 Chair Ernie Paris. Overall, despite the challenging soaked course a fantastic day in the true spirit of the IPA ‘service through friendship’. As ever, I am grateful for assistance in organising the event from 10 Region members Barney McKenzie and for scoring this year’s tournament, Terence Mullins.

She thanked the organisers from both Branches David Parkhill and Willie Maye for all their efforts and hoped that the event will continue for many years to come. The overall team prize came back to the North West and it is hoped that it can be retained when we go back to PORTSALON for next year’s event. We will look forward to that

The 25th Annual Golf Tournament between NW Branch, No 2 Region IPA and Colmcille Branch, Donegal took part this year on a dull overcast day at The Roe Park Resort Limavady on Monday 9th April 2018. Overhead conditions were favourable but had we been on a racecourse the going would have been described as soft, however this did not deter the 40 members, among them 4 ladies who enjoyed a great day’s golf followed up by a good meal and of course the usual craic and post mortems. The overall winner on the day with a very creditable 45 points went to Colmcille member Joe McManus who carded 45 points with Ken Knox from NW Branch returning a card of 42 points to take the runners up spot with Mark Kernohan on 38 points coming in 3rd. Joe also picked up one of the 2s as well The section winners were evenly divided with Colm McConigley, Colmcille Branch (low section) on 37 points and Bob Smith NW Branch (high section) 31 points coming out on top.
