Dyfed Powys Chief Constable honoured as IPA Branch Patron Gareth Cowley Dyfed Powys Branch Dyfed Powys Branch recently presented their DPP Branch Patrons Certificate to the Chief Constable of Dyfed Powys, Mark Collins. M ark joined Dyfed Powys Police (DPP) as a Special Constable in 1987 and then the Metropolitan Police in 1991. Transferred back to DPP in 1995 and by 2006 was the lead officer for the Welsh

Extremist and Counter Terrorism Unit. Served as a Borough Commander in the Met, ACC and DCC in Bedfordshire Police before taking up the Chief Constables post in DPP in December 2016. 2018 sees the 50th Anniversary of the forming of Dyfed Powys Police based on the amalgamation of Carmarthenshire and Cardiganshire Constabulary, the Mid Wales Constabulary and the Pembrokeshire Police, making it the largest police force geographically in England and Wales. A number of events will be held to celebrate 50 years as a police force. Colleagues can follow these celebrations on #HDPP50 on Twitter and Instagram Stories to be taken through ‘A journey in time’.

DPP Branch will be hosting the third Region’s Iconic Event over the weekend of the 6th and 7th of October in Brecon to which all are invited. Details for the weekend can be obtained through the Wales Region Chair, Mr Ken Davies or DPP Branch Secretary Gareth Cowley. The Police Roll of Honour Trust is the chosen Charity of IPA Section UK for 2018 Sean Hannigan , VP Section UK. The Police Roll of Honour Trust (PRoHT) was the chosen charity of IPA Section UK from 2017 to 2018. Sean Hannigan who holds the Cultural Portfolio wished to give the members an update on the trust. IPA members have been very generous in raising money for the trust by holding events right across the Regions. DPP Presentation by the Branch Chair, PC Alex Jones and accompanied by the Branch Secretary, Gareth Cowley.

L ast year over £600 was raised and this year is looking even better. The money has already been received by the PRoHT and an official presentation was held in June at the NCM. This year the IPA Challenge Coin is literally flying off the shelves with £2 of the £5 price going to our chosen charity. Please remember to include the IPA Charity in your future fund raising. The Trust are honoured that Her Majesty The Queen has approved a new Departmental Crown Badge for the sole use of the Police Roll of Honour Trust after it was authorised, in an exceptional move, by the Ministry of Justice. The Trust have also erected headstones on the unmarked graves of murdered police officers. Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum. This project is advancing rapidly, and the memorial will be an all-inclusive memorial recognising

sacrifice of the Police Service across the length and breadth of the United Kingdom. The Police Roll of Honour Trust motto is Lest We Forget, with the support of IPA here in the U.K we can ensure that those words carry a true meaning. The police family are renowned as a very generous group of people who are well known for giving to good causes. It’s an old saying that ‘charity begins at home’ well the Trust is a police charity that doesn’t get any closer to home. Thank you for all your hard work this year and last year.
