Another Choice

There is the great Serpent of the Evolution that bites its tail: issuing from the most material, t rises through the degrees and the planes of consciousness to then return to its base and seize it.

Physical creatures, we still are, by the functioning principle of our corporeal organs, animals.

And as an animal species we have become by far the most ingenious and the cleverest. We have eventually found the means to dominate all the others.

Our pride, or conceit, of superior predator, is expressing itself all over the earth, but the equilibrium among all the species has ruptured.

And our predators, those who can destroy or decimate us, are infinitesimal organisms, such as viruses or amoebas – and the plagues and disasters -, or such cellular deregulators and disorders as cancers.

Or else they are those various maladies and “sicknesses” that result from our individual or collective excesses.

Unless we do indeed turn out to be our own direct predators, through our wars, massacres and exterminations.

And yet it would seem that even worse we may prefer, as a species, to outmaneuver our own safeguards and to drag all the other species along into nothingness, through our own exponential proliferation finally exhausting the resources of the earth.

Our species is the only one to have the experience, not only of complexity but also of contradiction with all its consequences.

Our bodies thus undergo a thousand pains, a thousand pleasures and a thousand anguishes and a thousand versions of the “ill-being” marking our state of civilization, which no other physical
