37. Cot Safety

Some of our guests will be children will require a cot. The cots we provide must comply with national standards, must be easy to clean and designed to withstand boisterous use.

Cot Safety

All cots must be:

• Of sound construction • Stable • Able to support the weight of the child • Easily cleanable

• Free from screws or sharp edges • Comply with national standards • Properly and regularly maintained • Have correct sized Cot Bedding (fitted sheet, flat sheet and blanket) • Replacement cots and bedding must be ordered using the Hotel Order Pad which is processed via the 5555 Team • Cot Bedding should be stored in a covered container to ensure it remains clean in between uses • All cot bedding is laundered in house

Checks to carry out:

Each time a cot is to be used, team members must:

• Check the cot for cleanliness ensuring it is properly cleaned before use • Check to make sure that all the components are in place and in sound condition • Check to make sure that the cot is correctly assembled and stable • Complete the relevant Cot Check document

Issuing of Travel Cots It is company policy for team members to erect cot beds in the guests’ room where one has been requested on booking, or during a stay. There are training videos available on Our Hub to assist with team training.

Cots must not be given to guests for them to put up themselves.

Ensure the frame is secure and mattress is fixed into position using the Velcro straps provided before adding bedding.

Cots with defects must be taken out of service until properly repaired or replaced. These need to be clearly labelled ‘Not in use’.

All team members must report any defects, guest complaints, incidents or accidents involving the use of cots to Manager. The normal incident reporting procedures should be followed. See section 1 – Accident & Incident Reporting.

Regular Safety Checks Due diligence checks must be completed on a monthly basis to ensure cots are safe and upon issue of the cot.
