Bed Bugs

HEALTH & SAFETY

What to look for During your daily duties, here are some sign of bed bugs for you to look out for: • A guest may have a unexplained skin rash or itchy bump which they tell you about (although not everyone develops this) • Black spots on your mattress – this could be the bugs dried poo • Mottled shells that bedbugs may have shed • Small blood spots on sheets where guests may have rolled over and squashed a bug after it has fed • There may be an unpleasant, musty scent in rooms with a large infestation – adult bedbugs produce this odour with their scent glands when disturbed • We must ensure that all mattresses are thoroughly vacuumed prior to rotating every 3 months

What to Look For

If we have a bed bug outbreak in our lodges we must inform the duty manager straight away for them to phone the relevant company to assist with the problem and take the room off of sale. As housekeepers, we must : • Bag up all of the linen from the affected room in its own bag, leave in the affected room and inform the laundry company. • We should not move any items from this room to another. • Vacuum cleaning needs to be undertaken

We MUST

before and after treatment to assist with physical removal. The vacuum cleaner will need to be emptied prior to being used in another room.
