... The “cool season” is definitely over... ... Arrivals in the morning are less than cheering. There is always, or almost always, a demonstration of callousness, of the uncouth carelessness and grossness that is responsible for the rapid degradation of the environment. Today, I found the tap leaking profusely and obviously, judging by the soaked ground all around, left untended for already some hours, meaning no one even tried to stem the leak in any way and everybody went on filling their bottles and cans regardless... And when twice I try later to plug it so as to be able to water the garden, someone just pulls out the plug and throws it away... I sometimes wonder how discouraging it can all become... Generally people seem to assume there is no need for them to share in any responsibility for whatever happens around them, beyond the taking of what they need... But, perhaps as a consolation, Rs. 500/- have been offered... And Arunasalam comes in the afternoon to fix a new tap...
