... I thought no one had come in while I was collecting the flowers and sweeping and washing the gate area – I saw no one enter -; there was just one interaction, one worthy of a cartoon: a man riding by on his bike, seeing a foreigner sweeping in front of an open gate giving onto a garden, stopped short and turned around and asked whether he could just step into the garden a moment to put on... his cassock...! He said he was a catholic priest and he had gotten delayed and had to rush directly to the church to give mass...! But then, when I return into the Riddhi room to change for the puja (like the priest, except I wear a longi...!), I find that my bag has been moved and, when I open it, that all the cash, about Rs. 700/-, has been taken from my purse. This is once again the feeling of being under an unfriendly watch. As I am fairly certain no one could have come in through the gate unnoticed by me, I call Bitti to ask her whether there are still people leasing the cashew trees in the adjacent field; she then calls the head of this Muslim family who soon comes to meet me directly; but we reach nowhere and we are unable to communicate effectively... ... Rs. 10/- are offered...
