Today is “Deepam”, the Festival of Light – it is connected with Karthik, son of Shiva and Uma and therefore Ganesha’s brother; every house welcomes the light with clay oil lamps set in every opening; and here too, I have lit the five-in-one clay lamps which Manikandan brought from his last journey, besides the usual ones… … Sri Ganesh, I do not understand as yet your relationship with the planets – the 9 Grihas traditionally represented – but, today, I find that you stand there with both the aspects of the sun integrated: the generous, joyous life-giver, and the deep presence of the Lord, Martandar; and, as such, you offer and guard the base for the functions of the planets… Sri Ganesh, even though you are well able to move in the obscurity, your knowledge and your occult knowing, are happy and luminous and filled with loving, smiling compassion towards all…
