Contractor RAMS (Risk Assessment & Method Statement The company will ensure that a method statement (a written safe system of work incorporating the results of any risk assessments made) for work at height is prepared. This must be followed by all contractors involved in such work. Where it is not possible to follow the method statement the following steps shall be taken in this order: no further work shall be undertaken a responsible person shall be informed in consultation with those affected an alternative procedures will be outlined and workers will be advised. Contractors Records The following information should be documented as part of the Health & Safety records and requested from contractors when relevant (i.e. if contractors are having to work at height on Lockton premises): Details of inspections of scaffolds Details of routine inspections of items used for working at height, e.g. a) ladders, walkways, crawling boards, etc b) scaffolding and trestles c) mobile work platforms d) barriers, etc. The details must include dates that defects are discovered and action taken to correct the defects. Details of competent person(s) responsible for supervising erection, altering or dismantling of scaffolds or for inspection of particular equipment. Any medical conditions which may prevent or hinder persons from carrying out activities involved in working at height, such as visual impairment and loss of hearing.
