Electricity  Electricity introduces risks of shock and electrical burns, and  electrical faults constitute significant fire risk.  To control these risks  the following precautions will be taken:  All electrical systems within Lockton occupied properties shall be  properly specified, designed and installed. Systems shall be wired in  accordance with the IEE Regulations current at the time of  installation and all new equipment shall be manufactured to an  appropriate standard where one is set (such as British Standards (BS)  and European Norms (BS EN)) and marked as conforming to  European Union general standards (CE marked).  Fixed installations shall be subject to inspection for re‐certification by  a competent electrical engineer every five years (or a shorter period  if advised by the engineer or if the certificate is lost) depending on  the type of occupation and re‐certificated.  The system shall be  inspected, maintained and modified by electrical contractors  registered with the National Inspection Council for Electrical  Installation Contracting (NIC EIC).    Portable (plugged‐in) appliances shall be subject to a routine of  inspection and testing.  Portable appliances will be tested every 24  months (or more frequently if wear and tear is apparent).  Any faulty  piece of equipment is to be taken out of service, labeled as out of  service, and if possible unplugged from the mains supply.  It may not  be returned to normal use unless and until it has been checked by a  competent electrical engineer, repaired if necessary and  satisfactorily re‐tested.  Associates must not use any of their own electrical equipment (with  the exception of low voltage phone / tablet chargers) when at work  unless they have been inspected as above.  All employees are
