A suggestive and ancient parallel is found in a Talmudic treatise containing instructions as to worship by the Jews who, when visiting a temple, do so under the following rules: “No man shall go into the temple with his staff, nor with his shoes on his feet, nor with his outer garment, nor with money tied up in his purse.” Prudence . Christians remember St. John the Baptist on June 24 th and St. John the Evangelist on December 27 th , approximations of the summer and winter solstices. In 1717, the Grand Lodge of England (Mother Grand Lodge) was formed on St. John the Baptist Day.
