R.H. Peake is a lifetime amateur ornithologist and a former president of the Virginia Society of Ornithology. A professor emeritus of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, he taught at the college level for over forty years. He has published four volumes of poetry and three novels. A father and grandfather, he now teaches bird identification and Shakespeare at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in Galveston, Texas. Peake has listed over 1,200 species of birds and many other animals in Africa.
