ST BARTHOLOMEW’S School is a highly-successful centre of learning, offering a diverse and stimulating education. In February 2017, the DfE congratulated the school on being in the top 10% of non- selective state schools in England for attainment at GCSE and in the EBacc. The Sutton Trust has listed St Bart’s as one of the most successful comprehensives in the UK for students going on to the top universities. St Bart’s history spans more than 550 years and the school is an exceptional example of how the traditions of the past can be combined with future opportunities, ensuring students gain life-skills and confidence. Every individual student matters at St Bart’s and is valued equally. The school fosters an inclusive ethos, working to ensure each student meets their potential within a caring and supportive learning environment. An Ofsted report in 2015 stated: “The behaviour of students is outstanding. Students’ great desire to learn makes a very strong contribution to their good progress.” Students enjoy learning and the school prides itself on its academic success. This year, once again St Bart’s celebrated outstanding results. The introduction of the new English and mathematics grades of 9-1 saw 85% of students achieve grade 4 or above in English and mathematics.

An amazing 38% of all grades awarded were A* and A and grades 9-7 in the new qualifications.. The outstanding curriculum is geared to meeting the needs of all, with courses that are interesting and intellectually challenging. The school’s extensive extra- curricular activities provide a huge range of exciting opportunities for students to develop initiative, creativity and leadership. Music, dance, drama and sport are supplemented by such activities as debating, equestrian, horticulture and craft clubs, as well as Latin and Chinese classes.

The house system is central to the pastoral care provision. House heads and tutors have an overview of each individual’s achievements and targets; they also encourage participation in Throughout the school there is a strong sense of community and time is taken to celebrate student success.
